tumblrbot asked: WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST HUMAN MEMORY?
Hrm. I have a terrible sense of time. Yesterday and last year seem the same distance away for me where as for some people, last year is a little faded and further away.
I do have an early memory of being in a cot on the veranda at home and then seeing my mum hack what seemed like a big black snack to bits. As I got older, I saw this a few times so it’s probably a real memory. We lived in the country and left the snakes to their business unless they came in our yard. And my mum, protector of her children, would kill those snakes until they were past dead.
The other memory I have is going to meet my dad so it may have been pre starting school or just after and at the time I was quite shy. I sat on the knee of my uncle and hugged him, thinking it was my dad (they look kinda the same but I didn’t really know my uncle very well as he lived quite a distance away and we only saw him every other year or so). I remember lots of tears - panic and embarrassment. The adults present thought it was funny but I still feel a twinge of humiliation at the thought - not that it worries me these days, it’s just when I remember things, I’m right back there and whether relevant or not, I feel what I felt then. Memories are not just pictures for me - there are smells, sights and feelings associated.
